Overview
Riff Inc. is an online platform that provides musicians with educational resources and task management tools to help advance their careers. Despite its potential, the platform was underperforming, with key usability issues hindering user engagement and retention. Design efforts were focused on 3 key areas: Improve the platform’s value proposition for returning users, designing a more intuitive task management and sorting system, and a fresh redesign the dashboard to enhance usability and clarity.

The Challenge
This project required a major redesign within a tight six-week timeline, working within an existing design system and navigating limited UX knowledge among stakeholders. Users found the platform overwhelming due to cluttered layouts, rigid task structures, and an unintuitive dashboard. The challenge was to simplify navigation, improve task management, and create a more flexible learning experience while ensuring veteran users weren’t burdened with redundant steps.
The Solution
Our solution focused on simplifying the user experience by redesigning the dashboard, improving task management, and introducing a more flexible project-tracking system. We streamlined navigation, allowing users to access key tasks and projects quickly, while also segmenting learning materials to reduce information overload. A redesigned timeline view broke tasks into manageable sections, and optional in-task guidance ensured support without disrupting experienced users. Through user research and iterative testing, we created an intuitive, efficient, and engaging platform tailored to musicians' needs.
The Result
Our redesign led to significant improvements in user engagement and efficiency. Usability testing showed a 40% reduction in task completion time, while user retention increased by 25% due to a more intuitive dashboard and streamlined workflows. Learning and Tracking
We redesigned Riff Inc.’s learning and project management features to provide a more flexible and user-friendly experience. The new project board allowed musicians to track tasks across multiple activities, while tagging and sorting features improved organization. A restructured timeline segmented tasks into manageable sections, reducing cognitive overload.
